BOARD POLICIES & RECRUITMENT
IACD Members are eligible to be on the board of directors. If you are interested in serving on the board, you should contact any one of the current directors to learn more about our work together for this organization.
The number of directors on the IACD board is set by the members at the Annual Meeting. In 2009 the board size was increased from 5 to 7 directors. Directors are elected by a paper ballot vote that is sent to all IACD members. Directors serve for three year terms and are limited to three terms (nine years) of continuous service. A director who “retires” after nine years can run for the board again after three years. When there is a vacancy between elections, the board may appoint a member to serve as a director until the next election at which time that person may run for the position.
Board responsibilities are divided into several areas or committees:
Events (annual Congress, workshops), Membership (directory, maintaining data base, elections, surveys), Publications (the newsletter), Outreach, Archives, Financial, and Fundraising.
All these areas require creative thinking and energy. Please consider ways you might support the IACD mission by developing ideas for events that will reach more people, increase our active membership, strengthen our financial position and insure the long term sustainability of our organization.
Right now the board of directors is focused on developing clear policies that will build a structure for consistent decisions in the coming years and that will support our efforts to delegate more responsibility and authority to the general membership for IACD activities and functions. We believe this will create a greater sense of ownership and empowerment for the membership and will allow the board to better address “the big picture” of Mettler-based dance in the twenty-first century!
If it seems like a giant step to go from member to board of directors, please consider volunteering to help out with one of the many “worker bee” tasks that needs doing such as helping to conduct an election, maintaining the data base or sending out the annual appeal. You might consider hosting a regional workshop or being a Congress Coordinator. These jobs are very important and can give you a taste for what it takes to keep the organization going.
